Summer brings an opportunity to spend time as a family to enjoy many activities. Please remember to put summer reading on that list of fun activities. Our local library offers free summer programs and reading selections for children of all ages to enjoy. The state of Georgia is offering "Get Georgia Reading Campaign" to provide all children access to a digital library. This is an opportunity for enhancing your child's summer reading as well. Look for the link below.

Our first day of school is August 5. If your child is a bus rider, please make sure you provide our Transportation Department an accurate home address for bus assignment. Please contact Mary Taylor at 552-3981 extension 1221 or mtaylor@washington.k12.ga.us for questions or bus assignments. Have a safe and happy summer! Remember to get out and play every day!

Press Release

Important Note to Parents About Bus Changes

Dear Parents,

The District reviews procedures during the summer to improve safety measures and service to students.  After our summer review, we determined that “bus changes” should be improved in order to ensure the safety of students.  In order to ensure that your child arrives to the location that you have requested, we will require a note from the child’s guardian or guardian designee.  No phone calls will be taken for bus changes.

If you need to make a bus change during the day, the guardian or a designee of the guardian (person must be listed on the student’s sign-out list), must come to the school to complete a bus pass. This change will help us provide a safe environment for our children.  Thank you in advance for your cooperation.

Back to School Time!

Washington County Public Schools welcomes back teachers and staff Monday, August 1, at 7:45 a.m. with an opening address from Superintendent Dr. Donna Hinton in the cafeteria at Washington County High School. Pre-planning days include August 1 – 4 with Open House at all schools Thursday, August 4, from 1-6 p.m.

Ridge Road Elementary School Parent Involvement Coordinator Sherry Monroe invites parents to visit the information booths and displays of community partners who will be set up throughout the elementary side in the hallways.

Buses will roll in Washington County Friday, August 5, for the first day of classes. “Please be mindful of our students who will be out waiting for their bus,” said Transportation Director Willie Coneway. “Please obey all traffic signals on our roads and the bus signals as our children walk across highways and streets to get on and off their bus,” Coneway said.  “Getting our children to and from school safely is our number one goal,” he concluded.

Parents are encouraged to have students ready and waiting for their respective bus to help the drivers deliver them to school in a timely manner.
